For Immediate Release Contact: Keally DeWitt FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Edward DeJesus Selected as Activist-in-Residence at Brown University Providence, RI - The Activists in Residence Program is a new program under the direction of the Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America and The Swearer Center for Public Service at Brown University. The program is designed to highlight and honor movements for social justice within and outside of academia, and to bring to the Brown campus and Providence community individuals who have shaped these movements. Individuals whose life work exemplifies a connection between social justice and public engagement will be invited to campus throughout the inaugural year of the program. Community Scholars/Activists will be on campus for as short as three days or as long as one semester. They will provide a range of functions from class lectures to teaching full or mini courses. In every instance, the goal will be to expose students, staff, faculty and the community to examples of how real life issues influence what we learn and how what we learn influences how we live. Edward DeJesus is currently a social entrepreneur, serving as founder, President and CEO of one of the nation’s most pioneering youth policy and advocacy firms: The Youth Development and Research Fund, Inc. (YDRF). The Youth Development and Research Fund, Inc. is a private, minority-owned enterprise headquartered in Gaithersburg, Maryland. YDRF is dedicated to improving the lives of at-risk youth through enhancing the policies and programs that serve them, with particular attention to research, training and the power of cultural competence. The research, training, products, and information of YDRF help policy organizations, advocacy groups, foundations, community based organizations and educational institutions better meet the needs of today’s youth. Their model for social change utilizes a comprehensive network, recognizable staff experts and strategic partnerships to effectively reach and impact today’s youth.
