For example, most community colleges operate programs for students who do not have their high school diploma. There is no one central listing of all the available programs. Corps is the nation's largest and most comprehensive residential education
and job training program for at-risk youth, ages 16 through 24. Since
1964, the program has provided more than 1.7 million disadvantaged young
people with the integrated academic, vocational, and social skills training
they need to gain independence and get quality, long-term jobs or further
education. To apply for Job Corps, prospective enrollees can contact Job
Corps free by calling: NASSC The
National Association of Service and Conservation Corps (NASCC) is the
membership organization for youth corps programs. Since its inception
in 1985, NASCC has served as an advocate, central reference point
and source of assistance for the growing number of state and local youth
corps around the country. Conservation and service corps programs--youth
corps--harness the energy and idealism of young people to
meet the needs of communities, states, and the nation. Corps programs
engage young people, generally 16-25 years old, in paid, productive, full-time
work which benefits both the young people and their communities. Get down
with a corps in your area. YouthBuild YouthBuild
is a comprehensive youth and community development program as well as
an alternative school. YouthBuild, designed to run on a 12-month cycle,
offers job training, education, counseling, and leadership development
opportunities to unemployed and out-of-school young adults, ages 16-24,
through the construction and rehabilitation of affordable housing in their
own communities. Many graduates go on to construction-related jobs or
college. National Urban League The
mission of the National Urban League is to assist African Americans in
the achievement of social and economic equality. The League has many programs

AmeriCorps (Serve your community while getting ready for college) AmeriCorps
is the national service program that allows people to earn help paying
for education in exchange for a year of service. AmeriCorps members meet
community needs with services that range from housing
renovation to child immunization to neighborhood policing. School-to-Work (Get the most out of your educational experience. For in-school and out-of-school young adults) School to work is a new approach to learning. It links schools, students and employers. To

network of skills training centers serving the poor and unemployed in
cities, counties and rural communities throughout the nation. OIC's deliver
employment and employment-related services to those experiencing barriers

National Council of La Raza (NCLR) is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan,
