Indianapolis Youth Engagement Institute
Thursday September 28, 2006: 8:30-4:30
At the Indianapolis Youth Engagement
Institute (IYEI), you will learn
proven and innovative techniques to improve
youth engagement through the use of YDRF's
Youth Cultural Competence (YCC) method:
the active use of youth involvement, youth
popular culture and positive peer influence to
promote workforce and educational achievement.
Youth advocates can spend the day
with Tonie Jackson, one of YDRF's lead training
specialist, as he spotlights how to effectively
get the message across about the importance
of education and work experience,
especially education and putting a dollar figure
on their education. YCC is a revolution in
empowering youth programs. It's an entirely
new method of having programs effectively
connect with youth and then using youth to
produce more positive program outcomes for
their peers and programs alike.

The new book by YDRF President, Edward DeJesus,
Countering the Urban Influence
(CUI) is a must-read for anyone working with youth
aged 12 - 24. CUI is a personal narrative
based of DeJesus' experience working with at-risk
youth in New York City. It tells a story
of inspiration, heartache and what it takes to help
young adults make it beyond the streets.
DeJesus speaks about the importance of positive
peer groups, positive caring adults, genuine
opportunities to work and learn, and the need for
supportive organizations (the social protectors) in
the lives of all youth. Be one of the first 40 to sign
up for a YDRF workshop and get CUI for free.
